Social media, video games, comments enabled everywhere for everything—these things are conditioning a generation to think that art is about gratifying themselves and that creativity involves audience participation. Increasingly, people feel like artists are their servants, and demand a steady flow of new material. Worse, when the material is put out, people start talking about the ways in which is could be improved to better suit their tastes. Obviously, criticism has it’s place in art, but things have become ridiculous. And we wonder why everything has become so bland and homogenous? The real artists are either so intimidated by ungrateful audiences that they never try to attain widespread popularity or they compromise their visions to the masses in a misguided attempt to please everyone.

Defying belief.: Participate?

Yeah… I kinda have to agree here.

I notice artists have a hard time with their audiences online, but “real artists” do what they want anyway. I would hope creators just take what they know will help them from critique, online and off. Being honest about what they need to improve, without necessarily changing their vision.

ashdraws replied to your post: “I CAN WORK FULL TIME AND DO ART AT NIGHT, NO…

you have more determination than I do. x/

I really want to see more of your art! Unless you’re uploading it somewhere else that I am not seeing!

I am forcing myself to have determination and confidence and all that other crap you apparently have to possess if you want to draw shit for a living XD

Nope, not posting anywhere else. I’ve been scanning college stuff here recently to archive it, so I’ll probably be posting that some over the next week. I’ve been really bad about making new things. I always find something else to do on weekends, but I really have no excuse! I need to be more productive, haha. :)

Happy Mother’s Day!
I often portray my mom as a timid lady, because she is so loving and sweet.  But she’s tough too, she tried very hard to give us every opportunity in a small place, without much.  My mother is the one who has believed in my abilities the longest, and the fiercest, and for that I owe her everything.
In this particular exchange, she also showed me that people’s talent may not always be what it appears to be to others, and that we all may have a greatness in us that not everyone can see.
Remember to call your mother today.  She loves you.

Aw, this is a great comic.
